Reviews and Comments

This languidly paced, talky medieval adventure tells the story of the events leading up to the famous ride of Lady Godiva, from her first meeting with the Saxon Lord Leofric. The film's biggest flaw is its artificial dialogue, further encumbered by overly theatrical delivery. George Nader, who plays Lord Leofric, is the worst offender, tiresomely performing every last line with the same haughty air. The film will lose most of its audience to boredom and daydreaming early on, which is a mild shame -- and I stress "mild" -- because the last quarter contains a novel plot twist, some actual action, and a surprisingly effective, atmospheric depiction of Lady Godiva's ride. Clint Eastwood has a bit part.
