A shockingly unfunny comedy, this would-be star vehicle for David Schwimmer is one bad miscalculation after another. For starters, the opening scene gives the supposed surprise ending away by assuming a slow audience. Then the rest of the film tells the uninteresting story of unlikeable characters plodding through predictable situations that have nothing to do with real life but everything to do with overused movie plot templates. Another miscalculation is the relentless profanity which is jarringly out of place in what should have been a gentler, sweeter romantic comedy. Schwimmer once said he wanted to be his generation's Jimmy Stewart. Those are noble aspirations, but crud like this isn't going to do it for him.
