John Candy's first and last directorial effort isn't terrible, but a better script would have helped. George Wendt stars in this uneven comedy about a man who's life is in shambles, and then...stuff happens. It will likely be most appreciated by those who like black humor -- the tirades Wendt's wife and boss go off on are painfully funny. But the funniest moments occur sporadically in the background of unrelated foreground action, a la Airplane!. If only there were more humor, less dumbness, and fewer empty scenes....
