Flight From Singapore is a very British film with very British characters who take such things as crash landing in the jungle in stride. It's not a gravely dramatic film and not even much of an adventure, either, as most of the running time is before and after the jungle sequence rather than during. But there is a gentle whimsy that I appreciated, and also some small touches of realism: for example, when two men emerge from the jungle after five hours of heavy bushwhacking, they're exhausted. They look exactly like I do after a hike that long. It's such a tiny detail, but seeing it made me realize that, in most movies, the men would hyperventilate for a few minutes, and that would do it.
