Fancy Pants (1950)

Reviews and Comments

Bob Hope and Lucille Ball team up for this loose remake of Ruggles of Red Gap. As the casting suggests, Fancy Pants focuses more on slapstick and comic mania than dryly witty lines. Instead of an English gentleman who moves out west, Bob Hope plays a cheap actor playing an English gentleman who moves out west. Threat of discovery leads to some sticky situations. The cast is better than the script -- it seems like there was more potential here -- but failing to meet great expectations, in this case, doesn't mean it's bad. On the contrary, it's quite funny.
