It's been said that the ultimate end of the nineties trend of trashy action films is a single ninety minute explosion. By extension, it might also be said that the ultimate end of the late eighties/early nineties trend of trashy "kids' movies" is a ninety minute booger joke. Drop Dead Fred is just that, sloppily disguised by a nightmarish incarnation of the old imaginary friend plot. Stay away.
