Cutthroat Island (1995)

Director Renny Harlin, whose specialty is insufferably bad action flicks, makes a mockery of the swashbuckler genre this time out, casting his real life wife Geena Davis as the lead and inspiring what is unquestionably the worst performance I've ever seen from her. Harlin is obsessed with blood and people running away from explosions in slow motion. It shows. That, poorly choreographed fight scenes, and a paper-thin plot sums up what Cutthroat Island has to offer. There's enough mindless action to please uncritical viewers, but it's really a shame to see such a rich genre done such an injustice.
