Cry Wolf is an intriguing mystery thriller grounded by flat, unconvincing characters. Barbara Stanwyck's character, the widow of a secret marriage who stays at her husband's family's estate to get to the bottom of suspicious goings-on, is the only character that feels real. Consequently, her conversations with the other characters, particularly the male lead (Errol Flynn, with an uncharacteristically lifeless performance), are incongruous. It's a good story with a dull script; the effect is fun that falls apart when it's all over.
