Black comedy is one of the most rewarding comedic genres, but unfortunately one of the hardest to pull off. Addicted To Love doesn't quite make it. It wavers between hitting too hard and pulling its punches, favoring the latter, and unwisely attempting to blend in conventional comedy that ultimately undermines the whole. Let's face it. These characters are completely off their rockers. They're twisted and probably dangerous. In a well-executed black comedy, all would work -- but the movie wants us to care about the characters and sympathize with them, and that's a problem.

I did laugh, and I credit the movie for that, but the pieces don't make a very neatly unified whole.
