A Perfect Murder is a loose remake of Alfred Hitchcock's Dial M For Murder. Normally it's not a good idea to remake classics, but A Perfect Murder works for a couple of reasons: one, because Dial M For Murder was not one of Hitchcock's greatest, and two, because it is a loose remake. Beyond that, the performances are strong, particularly Michael Douglas' as the sinister millionaire. This is the type of role he was born to play, and he succeeds with flying colors.
I won't say much about the plot in case you're not familiar with the basics of the story. Suffice it to say that there are twists and suspense aplenty and that these are achieved by the convincing conflict between three truly amazing characters. It's unfortunate, therefore, that the ending undermines the film with an uninspired and unsatisfying action sequence. It's still worth seeing, but it's not the classic it very nearly became.
